Is your rabbit a smarty-pants?

Rabbits are very intelligent and can be trained quite easily by providing them with incentives. They are more intelligent than guinea pigs and hamsters. They will certainly get to recognize you and the sounds you make and may even learn their name.
As for training, while you think you are training your rabbit, it could be your rabbit is training you. It takes very little time for a bunny to figure out what they can get away with which is why it is so critical for rules to be established early and to be consistent with discipline…just like children.
Rabbits have been known to open latches on their pens and their bunny cages. Some even have ‘dog-like’ traits, running to the front door before someone knocks and then run back to let you know there is a visitor. And, they always know, along with the cats when an earthquake is going to happen!
Because they are ‘prey’ animals, they have a heightened sense of eminent danger. There is a story of a pet rabbit in Australia that has been credited with saving a couple from a fire that started in their house while they slept. The rabbit woke its owners by scratching on their bedroom door when smoke poured through the house.
There is another story of a wild rabbit that kept running back and forth under a fence to wear out a hunting dog who jumped over the fence to chase it. The dog was eventually out of breath and never did catch that smart rabbit.
So the conclusion? You may be able to beat your rabbit in sudoku, but you better wake up ‘early in the morning’ to out-smart your bunny.
