Goldfish Care

How many of you have gotten a goldfish as a first pet fish and it died within a week?
Goldfish can be great pets but they are very – delicate and sensitive.

Follow these rules and you will have a long living and happy goldfish.
• Never get your goldfish and aquarium on the same day. You need to cycle the water in the aquarium a few times before you introduce your fish to it

• The water you will use needs to be treated for chlorine that can be fatal to your goldfish

• Keep the water at a steady 65 degrees F

• They are messy fish that release large amounts of ammonia and waste in the aquarium on a daily basis. It is important that a minimum of 25% of the water in the aquarium be changed every 2 weeks and that it be treated for chlorine whenever the water is changed

• It is common belief that goldfish live well in bowls. Actually, bowls are detrimental to their health

• The best food for your goldfish is processed flake food with a mixture of worms and blanched vegetables such as peas, lettuce, corn, and spinach. Only the cores of the vegetable are to be fed and cut into smaller pieces. Spirulina flakes, live algae, or aquarium plants can be fed in lieu of blanched vegetables
