Dry flake food
is the easiest and cheapest way to feed a fish. It can be used as a staple in their diet.
Live food
is used as a supplement to a fishes diet. It can include daphnia, brine shrimp, tubifex and blood worms. Brine shrimp do not carry diseases but cannot live in fresh water so they have to be eaten quickly or they will die and dirty the water. Daphnia is a freshwater relative of brine shrimp and can live in an aquarium but they carry diseases, so only buy cultured daphnia. Worms such as tubifex can carry diseases so its best to feed blood worms. White worms and micro-worms are good for tiny fish. Live food moves so it helps your fish feel more like they are in their natural environment. But be aware, live food can also carry diseases.
Live fish
are good for any kind of fish to eat. The small pet fish love baby Guppies and Swordtails. Bigger pet fish eat grown feeder Guppies and even bigger pet fish eat Goldfish. They are very nutritious and can be kept in crowded conditions. They are considered the best food available for your pets.
Frozen/freeze dried food
are good because they don’t carry any diseases with them, but they do not move or taste as good.
Homemade food
is best for your goldfish but not for tropical fish. Goldfish like cooked vegetables like chopped lettuce and skinned peas or corn.
